This page is dedicated to sharing the tools, gear and other stuff I use to plan and execute a trip. It's a perpetual work in progress.
The Boats
14' Cedar Strip Canoe - We bought this canoe third-hand off Craigs List in 2016. It was cheap, and we were on the fence about starting down the road of another hobby. We both have done a fair bit of expedition sea kayaking (and I used to do quite a bit of whitewater), but it had been a while. We immediately fell in love! This canoe is heavy and not a model of craftsmanship, but she took us on several of our first canoe trips in Maine, including Lobster Lake, First Debsconeag Lake and the West Branch. We also have paddled and fished from her on numerous ponds and lake in Western Maine.
17' Royalex L.L. Bean Tripper - Knowing that we were hooked after a season using the 14' cedar strip canoe, we found an old 17' L.L. Bean Royalex Tripper on Craigs List and snatched it up in 2017. It was well-used and well-loved when we got it, and we've given it a lot more use and love! It's a fantastic boat that has opened up new opportunites and experiences to us.
12' Royalex Old Town Pack Canoe - I'd been looking for a pack canoe for a while, when this one popped up on Craigs List in New Hampshire in 2020. I drove down to see it, and it was in fantastic condition. I bought it on the spot and wasted little time outfitting it for tripping and getting out on the water.
